Visas for Ghana
PLEASE NOTE: You will be required to submit your passport to the consulate. You will NOT have access to your passport until the visa process is finished by the consulate. Please plan accordingly. The consulate will not release your passport until the visa process is finished.
ATTENTION: Foreign consulates do not accept demands from travelers. They do not work around a traveler’s time-frame, and may request additional documents not listed in the general instructions at any given time and circumstance without notice.
YELLOW FEVER WARNING: ln accordance with INTERNATIONAL SANITARY REGULATIONS all persons entering Ghana are requested to have a valid certificate of immunization against yellow fever. Do not submit your certificate together with visa application form. Keep it and present it at the port of entry in Ghana.

An application for an official, business and student visa shall be submitted together with a letter of invitation from the principals in Ghana and/or in U.S.A.
The invitation letter must be printed on the company or school letterhead stationery, addressed to “The Consulate of Ghana, Visa Section”, and signed by a senior manager (an equivalent to Vice-President or above), or the head of the principal’s office and stamped with the company or school seal. The letter must include the following information:
- Personal information of the applicant: name and job title, course and class information.
- State the nature of the business to be conducted (ie. business meetings, contract negotiations, etc.), the dates of the visit, and the names and addresses of companies to be contacted in Ghana.
- Specify the type of activities in Ghana(i.e. meetings, contract negotiations, trade-shows, etc.).
- State who will bear the costs of the applicant’s accommodations in Ghana.

In the case of journalist and or film crew who are covering an event or shooting a film in Ghana, the application shall take two weeks (14 days) for processing. In addition, such an applicant shall complete another form to indicate the nature of coverage and equipment to be taken to Ghana. Upon arrival in Ghana, such applicant shall call at the Information Services Department for accreditation.
